Semana Santa in La Antigua Guatemala is, unarguably, a very special time of the year. The combination of flowery carpets and ornate floats makes for a ton of different photo opportunities which can result in something truly special. No one knows this better than Leonel Mijangos, better known in town as “Nelo”, as he has been photographing Lent and Holy Week festivities in Antigua for the past two decades. As a photographer, his constant search for new and exciting angles made him resort to climbing gear to position himself solidly on electric posts, windows and other high vantage points. He’s, by far, one of the best photographers in town. So, we figured we’d ask him for professional advice on how to take solid photos of processions.
