Volcan de Fuego is known for being one of the most active volcanoes in Central America. However, Sunday’s eruption left more fatalities than any of those previously recorded from that particular volcano. Most of those affected by the eruption lived in the villages on the slopes of Fuego. That’s where the pyroclastic flow, a searing cloud of debris, hit the hardest. At least 69 people are known to have died.
